InTech Open Access Publisher

InTech is a leading Open Access Publisher for scientific books and journals, with over 1.400 books and 13 journals published to date. They provide unrestricted access to peer-reviewed scholarly journal articles and book chapters available to everyone either as a PDF download or HTML pages via the InTech Open web site.

InTech covers topics from physical sciences, engineering and technology to life, health and social sciences and humanity. For the renaissance souls among us, a real treat.

This fast moving company with its headquarters situated in Rijeka, Croatia operates across time zones all over the World, providing authors with a personal publishing platform and open access to a worldwide readership including scientists, academics, students and thought leaders. Such an intimate relationship with open access to content results in a deep understanding of each user groups needs.

Research for the project was a joy with up-to-date testimonials, usage statistics, leading user opinions and clearly defined KPIs available from the start. After we listed and grouped together the common patterns of users’ expectations and the ways in which they had been using the service to date, we decided to adopt a communicative approach, and very soon embarked on building a prototype.

The key approach was to clearly show — rather than just explain — the benefits of publishing with Open Access Publisher. Prior to publishing their first articles, all authors had once been readers. Once we realized that, it was crystal clear that we should design for the readers first and the authors second.

The outcome is a typographically clean layout, resulting in a site that is easy to use and read with useful sharing tools and accurate internal indexing mechanics.
